When visiting Mandalay (Myanmar) in 2012, I was surprised to be invited by a local Buddhist monk to take a look around the monastery where he taught. Adding to the serenity was a touch of the surreal. They had erected a miniature version of what appeared to be London's Big Ben in the monastery grounds, as can be seen in the background here.
